Give a gift that truly is a gift During Sierra Leone’s twelve-year civil war, thousands of men, women and children lost their lives and limbs to rebel gunfire. Abu, a ten-year-old resident of Freetown, lived to tell his story. As he and his father ran from rebel forces, a bullet punctured his father’s abdomen, piercing Abu’s leg as it exited. Like many of the children of Sierra Leone, Abu became an orphan and lost his leg as well. Until members of a 4 H.I.M. team heard Abu’s story, he had been using a prosthetic that was fitted over two years ago. Abu’s hips were growing unevenly, and the prosthetic became so cumbersome that he sometimes chose to not wear his leg at all. Because of a donation of just $100, Abu received a new leg that allows him to walk comfortably and for his hips to realign properly. Abu’s story is just one of the practical ways 4 H.I.M. has been building change in the world.
